Are you visiting Gettysburg for a weekend? Gettysburg has numerous hidden gems that even many locals don’t know about. Whether this is your first time or you visit frequently, you can never get bored in Gettysburg. Here are some unique things to do in Gettysburg that you probably haven’t done before.

Guide To Unforgettable Experiences In Gettysburg

1. Go On A Haunted Pub Crawl

Go On A Haunted Pub Crawl

A Gettysburg haunted pub crawl is a great way to hit two birds in one stone. You will get a chance to experience Gettysburg’s nightlife while also visiting all of the local haunted houses and eerie buildings.

Gettysburg has many haunted hideouts that you can visit. Visit places like the Jennie Wade House, which is the source of many local legends. It is named after 20-year-old Jennie Wade, who was baking in the house when Confederate soldiers fired on the house and killed her, earning her the distinction of possibly being the only civilian to have died during the Battle of Gettysburg.

Other Gettysburg haunts include the Farnsworth House Inn and the Brickhouse Inn, two famously haunted inns.

2. Visit The Farmer’s Market On Saturday

Every Saturday from May through October, Gettysburg hosts the weekly Adams County Farmers’ Market, which starts at 8 a.m. and lasts until 1 p.m. This is your chance to support local farmers while accessing fresh produce at amazing prices.

Some of the vendors at the Gettysburg farmers’ market include:

  • Charming Meadow Mushrooms
  • Bantam Coffee Roasters
  • The Caramel Kettle
  • Sharp Again — Blade Sharpening & Repair
  • And many others!

3. Attend A Paint And Sip Event

A paint and sip event is a great opportunity to be creative and enjoy the work of your hands while sipping on fine wine.

Board and Brush holds regular paint and sip events, including the Pick Your Project workshop, which occurs frequently on Saturdays. You can use provided materials, including wood, paint, and wood stain colors to create beautiful wood art on a project of your choosing. You do not need to have any experience to attend, although preregistration is required.

4. Hike The Big Round And Little Round Top

Just south of Gettysburg are two hills, the Big Round Top and the Big Little Top. On the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg, the Confederate army launched an assault here on Union soldiers, losing to the Union army, which, under the direction of Colonel Strong Vincent, successfully warded them off.

These two hills are surrounded by beautiful countryside. If you’re down for a short hike – but one that still gives you a serious workout – visit these two hills on a warm, sunny day (or a chilly day – they’re still beautiful!).

5. Visit A Miniature Horse Farm

Finally, why not visit a miniature horse farm? Have you ever seen miniature horses? These wonderful little creatures are incredibly cute and have a playful attitude.

It’s a particularly fun thing to do if you have kids. Just west of Gettysburg, you can visit the Land of Little Horses, a 100-acre miniature horse farm. It is open every day, including weekends, rain or shine. It is home to 24 tiny horses who are just adorable – your kids will love them.
